16.04.14 Travel: Hill House Norfolk

A weekend in Norfolk…with the kids. Six adults, 9 children. One word – LUXFUN!

So you have to understand the first thing I type when looking for anything is the word ‘luxury’. I don’t always want or need luxury but without it i seem to pull up the dregs of the internet. Hill House Norfolk however definitely is up there with the term ‘luxury family weekend’.

It’s not often you can rock up to a self catering rental to a giant sized cocktail glass of sweets in the hallway, bottle of champers, and a mountain of lemon meringue cupcakes in the kitchen just waiting for you. This was no ordinary weekend self catering accommodation.

10.04.14 An Easter Centrepiece & A house tour to revisit

Easter Display

It must be two years now since we shot Gill & Ian from Gregory Joinery Projects gorgeous Victorian mid century modern delight. I always remember this shot because of it’s simplicity and how sometimes that makes the best centrepiece. Pussy willow stems and Easter charms. If you missed their amazing house tour you can check it out here in full. It’s unmissable! Here’s a reminder!

23.12.13 Christmas Family House Tour: Laura Green works her Christmas Magic

meri meri cakes

I first met Interior designer and mum of two, Laura when we shot her gorgeous 1930’s renovation for a house tour with her family last year. When she invited me back to see her house with a sprinkle of Christmas magic, I couldn’t resist.  That and she make the most amazing cakes.

04.11.13 My Morning: Louise Freeland

My Morning: Louise Freeland

Louise Freeland is an uber talented British photographer, who lives in England with her husband and three children. She also has an allotment and a job in Veterinary management to keep her busy! Here’s one of her mornings.

My weekend mornings always start a little later. They are a catch up to the craziness of the working and schooling week. On a Saturday it all kicks off around 8am because the kids all generally have a lie in. Sometimes there is some bed switching around and we find them sleeping together or having swapped beds! It’s lovely and gives me a chance to catch up on a little reading in bed. My kindle is one of my favourite things. This morning I just finished ‘The Light Between The Oceans’ by M.L. Steadman.

Once everyone has woken up there is generally a little bit of lolling around from the kids before breakfast.

My Morning: Louise Freeland

After breakfast it’s a rush to get Hen ready for football and get him there on time. When we get home the girls and I have a little playtime. I love being outside. It’s where I take most of my pictures and we also have an allotment. If the weather is good enough, a little time outside every day is really important.

My Morning: Louise Freeland

Because it’s a day I’m not doing the 9-5, I always find time to work on my photos, either taking or editing, whilst the girls do some kind of crafting. This Saturday was painting…with glitter!

Then it’s time to tidy up the mess and prepare lunch or get it ready for later, before we pick Hen up from football for noon.

Thank you for sharing your morning Louise!

21.10.13 My Weekend: Kelly Sparkes

The lovely Kelly is the co founder of Phoenix and Fox, a new online interiors site full of  stylish, quirky and cool wonders. She lives in England with her husband and baby daughter Aria.

Weekends have changed so much since I had my little girl twelve weeks ago, long lazy mornings in bed have been replaced by her smiling gurgling face at 6am, but I’m not complaining. I love ‘chatting’ to her first thing in the morning.

I make the most of having my husband at home on a Saturday to look after Aria between feeds so I can get some work done.  This week I caught up with my business partner Sam to discuss the design of our new home page. I then spent the rest of the afternoon implementing  it, as I do all the web development for our online home accessories shop Phoenix & Fox.

A day working and looking after a little one goes so quickly.

Saturday evening, I got a chance to relax with a magazine whilst hubby made dinner. I’m very lucky as he’s an excellent cook.

Sunday morning we went for a family walk. The Autumnal colours of the trees were beautiful.

I’m always changing my home, although things take a lot longer than they used to these days! My current project is the hallway which has been painted a deep inky blue and I spent some time playing with different layouts for the salon-style gallery of art going up the stairs.

Before I knew it the weekend was over and it was time to bathe and massage Aria and get her to bed, before dinner and a date with Downton Abbey.

10.09.13 OUR HOUSE: Vicky Holmes & her beautifully designed family fun house

Vicky Holmes house

Vicky Holmes is a talented portrait photographer based in Essex who lives in this modern new build with her husband Daniel and daughter Izabel. Since shooting her home, they have since added another beautiful little girl to their family. Lucky Eliza!

When you meet Vicky you feel an instant sense of calm. She’s laid back and smiley and when you get over staring at how naturally beautiful she is, you realise how professional she is, all at the same time. She’s the girl who could live without make up for a year and still look immaculately fresh, bright and beautiful. Just like her house.

29.01.13 OUR HOUSE: Charlotte, Nicky & Lorelai and their light & bright colourful renovation.

Charlotte, an acupuncturist, her husband Nicky and baby Lorelai  have lived in this 1960’s renovated bungalow for 6 years.  After extensively renovating the whole house, extended the ground floor and re-designed the upstairs they are looking forward to kicking back and enjoying the fruits of their labour and they certainly deserve it. A passion for the bold and the bright and a love of bathroom design has transformed this home into an oasis. A light breeze floats through the house the day we shot these images and the bi fold doors to the outside space capture perfectly the essence of the house. It’s fresh, it’s bright and it’s full of love.

Our house is modern, with a homely, practical feel. Originally it was built in the 1960’s as a bungalow, and a dorma added in the 80’s.  Now we have totally renovated it, we love how it feels fresh and bright, even when it’s cold and grey outside!

Our favourite room has to be the kitchen as we are in here all the time. We wanted it to be sunny and bright and we like having people over so it was important that it was a social space too.

03.12.12 My Room : Ella age 5

Ella is 5 and lives with her Interior designer mum, dad, big brother Joseph and Lottie the dog. If you’ve been paying attention, she’s the final part of our Green family house tour and as they say ‘last but not least’.  It’s a dreamy space with the emphasis on a lot of off white to combat the pink bits, some pretty fairy lights and interesting ornaments and of course when you have a beautiful fireplace with tall ceilings and windows it finishes off any room perfectly. If only we could all live in a room like Ella’s the world might be a lovelier place to hang out.

I love purple, pink and red like my favourite toys, bunny and Minnie. I have lots of bunny rabbits in my room. The one by the tea set is a light and the mask i made with my friend when I went to the Lollibop festival.

19.11.12 Our house: Laura Green & family. A perfectly glamorous modern wonderland.

Laura Green an interior designer from Essex, lives with her husband and two children Joseph and Ella and Lottie the dog in a beautiful 1930’s home in Leigh on Sea.

I’m always excited to be given the opportunity to interview and document people in their homes, but never more so than when I went to meet Laura and her family in the beautiful town of Leigh on Sea. There is something about the mix of old property and contemporary decor that sends my heart into a flutter and for me, this house is one of the closest I’ve come to to my elusive hunt for perfection in a home.  Both Vicky (the photographer) and I left in a heady state of envy and admiration for what Laura has achieved. She has an amazing gift of making her rooms look minimalist, whilst simultaneously filling them with ornaments, knick knacks, candles and flowers. A complete contradiction for the minimal and simplistic. This is a girl with an obsession for beautiful lights, each room with a lighting statement of it’s own. I loved every second inside this house and remember it as if it were a dream. It’s a mix of old and new, glamorous but simple and cosily inviting, yet many of the rooms were generously large. Plus she has a walk in dressing room and AMAZING  shoe collection. Now someone pinch me! Enjoy.
