Tiina of Elcestockholm guided us on a City Design tour around Stockholm to meet with the owners, designers and artists involved in four of the most inspiration design hotspots in Stockholm. My favourite without a doubt had to be the seductively simplistic and creative office and store of blogger and Stylist Lotta Agaton.
A woman with a love of black and white, who ties black balloons to bottles of San Pellegrino is a woman after my own heart. Her space is functional yet beautiful and i was particularly taken with the pom pom banner mainly for its neutral colour, mixed with metallics – perfect for Kitty’s room one day?! She collects items she loves from around the world to adorn her walls because the space is her office as well as a shop selling items she loves only on a Thursday every week. If you are in Stockholm on a Thursday I highly recommend you take a trip even if just for the inspiration and you’d be hard pushed not to be tempted by some of the fantastic prints she sells. The space is an education in Simple Scandinavian Design.
This is what a party really looks like. Not neat and tidy for long!
In fact there was a little party at every stop. It was awful as you can imagine.

Semla buns at Bemz. This little Scandinavian delights are I think an alternative for pancakes on Shrove Tuesday (TODAY!) where they were meant to be eaten as the last treat before lent but are now often available between Christmas and Easter in some areas. They are filled with a curious but strangely addictive almond cream although I was informed by some of the other Swedish and Norwegian bloggers they are often made with Vanilla cream too. Who could resist? Well obviously not me.
The Bemz Inspiration store was filled with swatches of material and funky cushions all focused on designing covers to personalise Ikea products including sofas, chairs and now a line of bedlinen and headboard covers too – the ultimate boudoir personalisation! All textiles are machine washable and woven with natural fibres that produce a hardwearing quality.
They have a huge collection of fabrics. The swatches were free. Let’s say it was like kids in a candy store only adult design geeks and fabric swatches!
We also stopped at Svensk Tenn, one of the most historical brands in Sweden originating in 1924. Their famous textile prints designed by the likes of Estric Ericsson and Josef Frank are often brought out of archive and rereleased but their classic style seems to remain current. The beautiful exhibition of Michael Anastassiades (To be perfectly Frank), showed a series of products designed exclusively for Svengskt Tenn was a homage to Josef Frank himself as he reinterpreted selected objects designed by Frank. The most amazing visual part of the collection being the botanical floating wall created to showcase Michael Anastassiades glasswork, using plants taken directly from a print of Josef Frank.
I also fell in love with this book by Rop Van Mierlo.
Our last stop was DesignTorget, a chain store championing small independent designers wishing sometimes to just sell one product. It was full of cool knick knacks and interesting objects. A great place for gadget lovers and it had some fab products for kids too.
Tomorrow I’ll show you my favourite places to shop for kids in Stockholm.
