29.01.13 OUR HOUSE: Charlotte, Nicky & Lorelai and their light & bright colourful renovation.

Charlotte, an acupuncturist, her husband Nicky and baby Lorelai  have lived in this 1960′s renovated bungalow for 6 years.  After extensively renovating the whole house, extended the ground floor and re-designed the upstairs they are looking forward to kicking back and enjoying the fruits of their labour and they certainly deserve it. A passion for the bold and the bright and a love of bathroom design has transformed this home into an oasis. A light breeze floats through the house the day we shot these images and the bi fold doors to the outside space capture perfectly the essence of the house. It’s fresh, it’s bright and it’s full of love.

Our house is modern, with a homely, practical feel. Originally it was built in the 1960′s as a bungalow, and a dorma added in the 80′s.  Now we have totally renovated it, we love how it feels fresh and bright, even when it’s cold and grey outside!

Our favourite room has to be the kitchen as we are in here all the time. We wanted it to be sunny and bright and we like having people over so it was important that it was a social space too.

19.11.12 Our house: Laura Green & family. A perfectly glamorous modern wonderland.

Laura Green an interior designer from Essex, lives with her husband and two children Joseph and Ella and Lottie the dog in a beautiful 1930′s home in Leigh on Sea.

I’m always excited to be given the opportunity to interview and document people in their homes, but never more so than when I went to meet Laura and her family in the beautiful town of Leigh on Sea. There is something about the mix of old property and contemporary decor that sends my heart into a flutter and for me, this house is one of the closest I’ve come to to my elusive hunt for perfection in a home.  Both Vicky (the photographer) and I left in a heady state of envy and admiration for what Laura has achieved. She has an amazing gift of making her rooms look minimalist, whilst simultaneously filling them with ornaments, knick knacks, candles and flowers. A complete contradiction for the minimal and simplistic. This is a girl with an obsession for beautiful lights, each room with a lighting statement of it’s own. I loved every second inside this house and remember it as if it were a dream. It’s a mix of old and new, glamorous but simple and cosily inviting, yet many of the rooms were generously large. Plus she has a walk in dressing room and AMAZING  shoe collection. Now someone pinch me! Enjoy.

22.10.12 Our house: Gill, Ian, Nancy & Hattie – A modern Victorian Delight

This late Victorian beauty is home to a very talented and creative Gill, her husband Ian and their two lovely daughters Nancy, 9 and Hattie, 6.

When you walk into this family home it’s like getting a feeling of warmth wash over you. It feels loved. There is something endearing about a space that’s lived in as much as it’s loved. Not every magazine and book is on a shelf and not every decorative item is in a minimalist storage cupboard. It’s refreshing. It’s the kind of house you feel happy to walk in, kick your shoes off and curl up on the sofa. The Parquet flooring and original features mixed with classic contemporary furniture welcomes you in and gives you the desire to see more.  Having not realised we knew each other, Gill, who once managed a store of Habitat in the 1990′s, recognised me as one of her Saturday girls almost immediately. Small world! It was a delight to see what I remembered as her passion and love of interiors, displayed in every inch of her home, over a decade after we worked together.

13.08.12 OUR house: Siobhan, Leroy & the girls. A contemporary family haven

Hairdresser and stylist Siobhan lives here with her Graphic Designer husband Leroy, their two beautiful girls Amelie, 5 and Esmee, 3 with the delightful Ozzie the dog! Check out Amelie and Esmee’s bedroom from our last MY Room tour here.

I first met Siobhan a few years back at a child’s party. Her vibe was cool and trendy, yet relaxed. I was later introduced to her properly by a friend and having shared some life experiences together we kind of hit it off. The first time I saw her house I was overwhelmed by how it reflected their personalty and how far the design and style and a few well chosen pieces of furniture goes. I seriously love this house. The family that lives here are beautiful inside and out and it was the house that inspired this website. We all just want to nose around other people’s homes, you know the ones that make you gasp or give you a fussy feeling inside, big or small and we want to know how other people live stylishly with kids. This house is not really big or showy but it’s contemporary, fashionable and effortlessly homely all at the same time. Thank you for sharing it with us!
